In April, the company showed its dealers a 4.4 litre V8 diesel engine that was said to have 9 percent more power, 15 percent more torque and 20 percent better fuel economy than the F-150’s 5.4 litre V8 petrol engine. That engine is rated at 320 horsepower (~240kW) and 390 pounds-feet of torque (~530Nm) and up to 14/20 mpg city/highway, according to the EPA.

Ford started its Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (“PHEV“) program some time ago now, in conjunction with utilities Southern California Edison, the Electric Power Research Institute, DTE and battery-maker Johnson Controls/Saft. But, as of yesterday, Ford announced the great news that the U.S federal government (via the U.S DOE, U.S Dept. of Energy) has given them a grant of $10 million to help Ford cover the $20 million exercise.

Mustang wagons have long been part of ponycar folklore. Some customs exist, but a factory-built first-generation Mustang shooting brake still appears to be mythology. Our friends at Hemmings have turned up some very nicely done cars that individuals have put together, a particularly fetching blue one has a very well thought out roofline and rear hatch.

One of very many weird Mustang conversions...
