Further proof that Cash for Clunkers is fueling sales of small cars comes today by way of Ford. The Blue Oval is reportedly cranking up production of the Focus compact in order to satisfy demand. Shortly after the government’s scrappage plan was launched, news came that the Ford Focus was the top-selling nameplate on Cash for Clunkers trade-ins, though it was subsequently replaced by the Toyota Corolla and Ford’s own Escape.

I just had a very long day at work, so I don’t feel like typing out a mile long essay on the latest in Ford news today. So, to make it easier, here is the article from Autoblog.com…
As reported earlier, Ford used its 2010 model year preview in Dearborn, Michigan to announce the next stage of the company’s EcoBoost strategy for North America. The new 2.0 litre EcoBoost four-cylinder will arrive in 2010, and along with the new engine, Ford will also debut its Powershift six-speed dual clutch gearbox next year. Ford has started to run some test mules for its next generation Focus, spotted this first time around in both sedan and wagon variants. While we are certainly excited to see a load-lugging Focus being tested out, we’re not going to hold our breath that Ford has plans to bring the wagon version to North America for the first time since the first-generation car.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Reuters) — Ford Motor Co. expects electric vehicles will represent a “major portion” of its lineup a decade from now as the automaker breaks away from a recent reliance on pickup trucks and SUVs, CEO Alan Mulally said.
