Ford perfecting side impact airbag sensors…
May 14, 2009One of the cool things about being an engineer is that in addition to designing innovative new features, you get to develop novel ways to test those features. The 2009 Ford F-150 and 2010 Taurus both feature a new airbag deployment system that incorporates sensors to measure the pressure of a side impact in order manage the inflation rate of the bags. The pressure-based system provides more precise data than typical accelerometers and allows the system to better resist false positives that come from incidents like rolling shopping carts in parking lots and flying basketballs.

The SHO is back!!! Read all about it HERE at Autoblog…
Powered by the acclaimed EcoBoost V6 engine with increased outputs to 272kW / 475Nm (via twin turbo), all-wheel-drive, which is mated to Ford’s 6F55 six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The tranny is augmented by a manual mode that can be controlled either by the console shifter or paddle shifters, and will also rev match downshifts and hold gears even when the tach is bouncing off the engine’s redline. More info after the link above…

The new Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition truck sits on new 22-inch forged aluminum wheels with polished and painted surfaces and a center cap adorned with the Harley logo. The crew cab has ample space inside for five passengers and the seating surfaces are covered in the same type of leather used for official Harley biker jackets.

The seat bolsters in front also feature the ribbed leather that you find on shoulders and elbows of those jackets. Inspired by Bentley’s bragging about how many cows it takes to line the interiors of its cars with leather, Ford’s Mark Fields joked, “It takes the jackets of 12 Harley Riders,” for one F-150.
The cover of the center console bin is also emblazoned with an enormous Harley-Davidson badge and the truck’s serial number and VIN. Likewise, the steering wheel is wrapped in a mix of the same red and black leather as the seats. The center stack, meanwhile, is covered in a matching red rubberized finish of the same type used on the 2010 Fusion Sport.

Under the hood, the standard 5.4L V8 shared with the less flashy F-150s puts out 320 hp (240kW) and 390 lb-ft (530Nm) of torque through the usual 6-speed automatic transmission. Ford hasn’t commented on pricing yet, but harvesting jackets off the backs of all those bikers surely doesn’t come cheap. Interested buyers will find out closer to this summer when the 2010 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition goes on sale.

2010 Taurus SHO uncovered!!!
January 20, 2009Thanks to our friends at BringBackTheSHO.com, we now have more evidence than ever that the SHO will rise again. These spy shots show a pair of serious looking Taurus sedans snapped along the I-75 corridor in Florida. These two sedans are different from the Limited and SES models we saw at the Detroit Auto Show last week, wearing new wheels (at least 19 or 20 inches in diameter), a decklid spoiler, different tail-lights and a new rear bumper that extends lower over a pair of dual tail-pipes.

This is the (arguably) last chance for (not just) Ford in the sedan market in the U.S. If the Taurus flops – so does Ford… But it still has other markets open too. For the full rundown on this great sounding car, have a squiz at the AUTOBLOG VEHICLE PREVIEW.

Next off the line we have the new EcoBoost V6 engine which is debuting in the MY2010 Ford Flex. This new V6 offers turbocharged 6 cylinder performance (with 265kW / 355hp & 475Nm / 350lb-ft on tap) albeit with the fuel consumption of a run-of-the-mill family-car V6 engine – which in the EcoBoost’s case isn’t very much (~22mpg city!)! For all the info, follow the LINK.
