Leaked! 2011 Mustang GT to get 5.0 litre Coyote V8… With 412 ponies!!!

It has come to our attention via a very impatient Facebook member that the confirmed 5.0 litre ‘Coyote’ V8 to feature in the 2011 Ford Mustang (among other Ford products) will have 412 horsepower. That equates to 307 mighty kilowatts – all from a considerably small V8!

Ford’s new 5.0L ‘Coyote’ V8 confirmed for 2010…

Ford Australia has confirmed it is staying in the V8 business beyond the life of the current 5.4-litre Boss engine. And the favourite to take over from the ageing Boss is an aluminium double overhead cam 5.0-litre codenamed ‘Coyote’ that is currently under development in the USA with baseline outputs reported to be around 300kW and 540Nm.

FPV to get a new V8… Next year…

Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) will have a more powerful V8 engine next year, but it will still be locally assembled.

With Euro IV emission controls set to come in on July 1 next year, FPV will finally retire the existing 5.4-litre Boss V8.

Ford’s Romeo Engine plant produces 10 millionth engine, continues to power ford icons

  • Romeo Engine Plant, produces V8 engines for Ford F-150, Mustang, Shelby GT500, Explorer, E-Series van, Crown Victoria, and the Mercury Grand Marquis
  • Plant produces 140 engines an hour on its high-volume line, with hourly and salaried teams focusing on continuous improvement and quality basics.
  • In 2008, engines built at Romeo output 88.9 million horsepower, 2,750 times the combined horsepower of this year’s starting field at Daytona.

We were a bit disappointed last week when Ford revealed the new 2010 Harley-Davidson edition F-150 factory street truck. It wasn’t the looks that let us down but rather its mild powertrain – the same 320 horsepower (240kW) / 390 pounds-feet of torque (530Nm) 5.4 litre V8 that’s available in the rest of the F-150 lineup.

This new motor shares no parts with the currently run Ford 351 based engine – it’s a clean sheet design which has been in the skunkworks for 3 years now.
