Norris Cadiere of Marrero, La., evacuated to escape Hurricane Gustav and now he is the owner of a brand-new red Ford Mustang convertible from Hollywood Casino Bay St. Louis.

Cadiere and his family were on their way home after evacuating to Columbus, Ga., when they decided to stop at Hollywood Casino.

The Mississippi Gaming Commission cleared the casino to reopen shortly after 11 a.m. and about 8:30 that evening Cadiere hit the jackpot.

Playing maximum bet on the Ticket to Drive nickel slot, “The machine went crazy making all kinds of noise,” he said. Cadiere thought he won $1,018, but the cash value of the fully loaded Mustang exceeds $30,000.

His luck held. Cadiere arrived home and found the family’s house wasn’t damaged by the storm.

When he evacuated, “I wasn’t thinking of casinos, although we love to come to Hollywood,” said Cadiere. “I was trying to get out of harm’s way. I didn’t even have my comps and mail offer, but they took our reservation over the phone. ”

Hollywood spokesman Bob Davidge said people are discovering the casino has reopened and a new group of guests is coming to stay until power is restored in Louisiana. They could also drive home a new car, as there is a 2009 Mustang on the floor waiting to be won.

Cadiere’s new car is the third 2008 Mustang won on Hollywood Casino’s Ticket to Drive slot since late April. Two 2008 Corvettes were given away in Hollywood promotions last month. Hollywood Casino will give away a third 2008 Corvette and a 1961 classic Corvette convertible Oct. 10 and 11.

“Right now everyone has their sights on the record-breaking $1 Wheel of Fortune progressive jackpot worth more than $13 million,” said Hollywood director of slots Rick Fitzsimmons. “We’d love to see one of our players take home that jackpot, too.”
