Geneva 2010: Mk III Focus RS/SVT green-lighted…

March 2, 2010

Ford has announced at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show that it’s two major performance divisions – SVT and RS – are merging to create the ultimate in Ford hot rods. Jost Capito – the man responsible for both the Mk I and Mk II Focus RS – is the head of this new division. That’s the first half of the good news. the second half? Well, in the press release from the new Focus Estate Ford quickly slipped in some pointers…

This is the paragraph that spills all:

“At Geneva, Ford is also confirming that a global performance vehicle will be developed as part of the next-generation Focus range, and that it will be powered by a version of the 4-cylinder Ford EcoBoost engine family.”

Exciting, eh?

Anyway, this means that the 2.0 litre turbo 4 cylinder EcoBoost monster will fill the engine bay. Output numbers are still up in the air – as well as all other mechanical and technical information. Front Wheel Drive? Maybe. All Wheel Drive? Probably less than likely, but it could still be possible.

Stay tuned for more info.

  1. Definitely a good reason to continue buying a Ford!
After all, what really good and interesting products does GM have in the pipeline? Just the Buick GS; and that’s a completely different animal which will most likely be dramatically neutered before it ever hits production.

Ford – No Bail out, no Massive Recalls, and the performance minded drivers have not been forgotten!
