Mulally expects “major portion” of Fords electric within decade…

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Reuters) — Ford Motor Co. expects electric vehicles will represent a “major portion” of its lineup a decade from now as the automaker breaks away from a recent reliance on pickup trucks and SUVs, CEO Alan Mulally said.

Volt’s Ford counterpart charging…

For months, Ford Motor Co. and Magna International Inc. had been talking about an electric vehicle. In September, executives at the Canadian supplier told Ford they had a surprise. They pulled up in Dearborn in a Ford Focus they had bought and converted to battery power on their dime, without Ford’s knowledge.

Ford’s plans for 2010 reveal of full electric vehicle…

Ford’s business plan submitted to Congress a few weeks ago indicated that the Detroit-based automaker would be offering a “full battery electric vehicle in a van-type vehicle for commercial fleet use in 2010.” Up until this point, we were left to speculate on the basis for the new EV, but Ford CEO Alan Mulally has now revealed that the new Blue Oval van will be based on the European Ford Transit that’s scheduled to hit U.S. shores in the summer of 2009.
